About UA Local 740

UA Local 740 was chartered as a local on July 16, 1949. Today, the local has approximately 1800 members, both journeypersons and apprentices.

Local 740 represents members in the trades of Plumbing, Pipefitting, Sprinklerfitting, Steamfitting, High Pressure Welding, Refrigeration and Non Destructive Testing. Our members have been major contributors to the successful completion and ongoing projects such as:

  1. the Hibernia Offshore Platform
  2. the Terra Nova FPSO
  3. the Come By Chance Refinery
  4. the Vale Nickel Processing Plant in Long Harbour
  5. the Hebron Offshore Platform
  6. the Lower Churchill Hydroelectric Generation Project at Muskrat Falls
  7. long term care facilities in Pleasantville and Carbonnear
  8. and several Alberta Oilsands projects

Our union office is located at 48 Sagona Avenue in Donovan’s Industrial Park, Mount Pearl. The union building houses the union administrative staff, our welding testing facility and our Health & Welfare and Pension administration office.

Adjacent to our union office building is a fully equipped training facility where courses in all trades represented by the Local are taught at both the apprentice and post journeyperson levels.
